It was not a vintage performance from Patrick Mahomes on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs secured a much-needed 23-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts. On top of that, Mahomes sustained a groin injury in the game, which has now impacted his status for Thursday’s Thanksgiving showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
After a hard-fought battle against the Colts on Sunday, the Chiefs decided to skip practice on Monday. However, they still submitted an injury report ahead of Thursday’s game, wherein Mahomes popped up with a groin issue. The report was only an estimation, but the fact that the two-time NFL MVP was listed was a noteworthy development.
Mahomes did enough to help lift the Chiefs over the Colts on Sunday. The two-time All-Pro quarterback completed 29-of-46 passes for 352 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. Mahomes was also sacked four times in the win.
In Monday’s injury report, the Chiefs estimated Mahomes as a full participant. The team actually practiced on Tuesday, and the good news is that Mahomes participated in full. The Chiefs made the announcement via the official practice report.

The Chiefs are not expected to practice on Wednesday, and that report will be another estimation. The fact that Mahomes practiced in full on Tuesday is an excellent development for his availability for the Cowboys game.
There are more than a few names to monitor apart from Mahomes. Trey Smith and Noah Gray are not expected to play on Thursday, but Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are trending in the right direction.
Sunday’s win over the Colts was Kansas City’s first in its last three games. They improved to 6-5 but still have a long way to go before securing their spot in this year’s playoffs. The result of Thursday’s high-profile contest will have a significant impact on the Chiefs’ postseason hopes. The same can be said for the Cowboys, who enter the Thanksgiving showdown with a 5-5-1 record.
