Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce entered Monday’s primetime matchup against the Washington Commanders looking to keep his foot on the gas. In his seven games prior to their Week 8 showdown against a Jayden Daniels-less Commanders side, Kelce had already registered 31 catches on 40 targets for 375 yards and two touchdowns.

In their 31-0 shutout of the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7, Kelce logged a game-high 54 yards on three receptions. The four-time All-Pro tight end will want to keep it going on Monday night as the Chiefs look to improve on their 4-3 record on the season.

Kelce is currently in his 13th year with the Chiefs. The 36-year-old seriously considered retirement in the offseason following their heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. However, Kelce ultimately decided to return for at least one more run with the Chiefs and potentially, for his fourth Super Bowl title in seven years.

Kelce wasted little time making his mark on Monday’s contest. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes found a wide-open Kelce in the second quarter for an impressive 31-yard catch. Kansas City’s offensive line did a stellar job in protecting Mahomes on the play, which gave him a lot of time to seek Kelce out.

Kelce made no mistakes with his catch for a first down at the 22-yard line.

Kelce’s 31-yard reception turned out to be a special one for the fans. The Chiefs have an ongoing promotion with fast-food chain Torchy’s Tacos, where customers can get a buy-one-get-one taco when the Chiefs have an offensive play of more than 30 yards.

Kelce delivered, and the team made the announcement on social media.

“Free tacos thanks to @tkelce !” the Chiefs posted on X.

The Chiefs were able to open the scoring in the same drive, with Kareem Hunt rushing to the end zone for a one-yard touchdown at the 5:46 mark of the second quarter. After the extra point, Kansas City took a 7-0 lead over the Commanders.

Washington, however, tied the game in the final minute of the half. Fill-in QB Marcus Mariota found Terry McLaurin for an 11-yard TD right before the break. As of writing, the game is tied at 7-7 at halftime.
