The Kansas City Chiefs are already missing one of their top wide receivers in training camp with the ongoing absence of Marquise "Hollywood" Brown for the last several days. On Wednesday, the Chiefs will also practice without wideout Rashee Rice in St. Joseph.
Rice was seen in the team's training tent and will miss practice. That means two of the top three WRs for the Chiefs are out of practice.
No further details concerning Rice's condition are yet known, but post-practice remarks will offer at least some clarity as to what is going on.
Any level of concern should be rather minimal at this stage without knowing the details. Missing a single training camp practice nearly a full month before the regular season is set to begin is no reason to reach for the alarm.
That said, the availability of Patrick Mahomes' top pass-catchers is a primary issue for the Chiefs, knowing just how much the offense had stagnated in recent seasons due to injuries and a lack of depth. Rice is already awaiting a likely multi-game suspension, and he's returning from a season-ending injury as it is.
Brown is the bigger worry for the Chiefs as he continues to nurse an ankle injury that has kept him out for more than a week. He missed all last season with a clavicle injury suffered while making his first catch in the Chiefs' first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Brown returned to play in two games and the rest of the postseason for the Chiefs, and the hope is that he can return healthy in 2025. The same can be said for Rice after going down in Week 4 last season. Together with the emergence of Xavier Worthy, the Chiefs have a robust trio of weapons at wideout—if they can stay on the field.
Beyond Rice and Brown, the Chiefs have dealt with other injury concerns on offense with Skyy Moore, Jake Briningstool, Tre Watson, and Jared Wiley all missing time recently.
Rice had 24 catches for 288 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns last year for the Chiefs.
