In a surprising turn of events, the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade away All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie before the start of the new league year.

McDuffie, 25, has racked up 246 tackles, 34 pass break-ups, eight forced fumbles and three interceptions since being drafted by the Chiefs in 2022. Although he's been an integral part of their franchise, his contract situation has complicated matters.

Instead of signing McDuffie to a long-term deal, the Chiefs have decided to move on from their No. 1 cornerback. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Los Angeles Rams are sending the 29th overall pick in this year's draft to Kansas City in exchange for McDuffie.

"The Chiefs and Rams are working on a blockbuster trade that would send All-Pro CB Trent McDuffie to Los Angeles for a package that would include the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft," Schefter said. "McDuffie would be expected to sign a long-term deal with the Rams."

It's also being reported that Kansas City will receive a 2026 fifth-round pick, 2026 sixth-round pick and 2027 third-round pick in this deal.

Super Bowl or bust for the Rams.

The Rams were a few plays away from reaching the Super Bowl this past season. An argument can be made that Sean McVay's secondary held them back. After all, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold completed 25-of-36 passes for 346 yards with three touchdowns in the NFC Championship Game.

Well, that shouldn't be the case anymore now that McDuffie is heading to Los Angeles.

It's also worth noting that Los Angeles still owns the No. 13 pick in this year's draft due to a 2025 trade with the Atlanta Falcons.
