Chiefs Can't Be Discounted From Super Bowl Contention Due To 1 Key Reason

The Kansas City Chiefs have to be asking themselves how big of an impact the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles had on the league-wide perception of them.

Even though just one game ago, this team was being talked about as potentially the best ever, with the loss to the Eagles, their aura of invincibility hasn't just had its shine taken off: it's gone completely.

But we aren't so quick to dismiss the Chiefs in the division and AFC, let alone the Super Bowl, while others seemingly are, and for Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, two people give him confidence that Kansas City is still the apex predator in the NFL.

“Mahomes and Andy Reid have since become one of the top coach-quarterback duos in modern NFL history, and fans are always going to have a sense of optimism as long as those two are running the offense," Knox writes. "Is Kansas City a lock to make an eighth straight conference title game? Of course not. But with Mahomes and Reid at the helm, the Chiefs have to like their chances.”

When you have Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, you are always going to be in the Super Bowl conversation; the difference compared to other seasons is that the Chiefs - who open training camp on Monday - are going to have to prove they belong in said conversation.

That is nearly unheard of in the Mahomes/Reid era, but there have been signs of things not being as buttoned up as they used to be with the offense's production (and Mahomes') slipping in recent seasons.

But we aren't throwing the baby out with the bath water in 2025, and the combo of Mahomes and Reid is the reason why.
