The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Denver Broncos in Week 18 with Andy Reid's team having already locked up the No. 1 seed, meaning this game has nothing riding on it.
Given the circumstances, the Chiefs will "rest" several starters, one obviously being Patrick Mahomes . Enter backup Carson Wentz.
The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback will be getting his first start of the year, and his goal for the Denver clash is rather simple.
“Have fun, want to play well and have success out there,” Wentz said. “Ultimately, more than anything, get a win, that's the goal. We know the circumstances, we know, where we're at, and the reason I'm playing, not Pat [Mahomes] and all the things, but I still go out there and expect to win. I'm going to prepare to go out there and win and have a good performance with this offense.”
While the game doesn't have much riding on it for most of the Chiefs' roster, but in Wentz's case, it provides him the opportunity to put himself in the shop window for respective teams in 2025.
With Reid stating numerous times that Carson deserves to be starting in the league, if he goes out and lights up Denver, then teams might look Wentz'd way in free agency.
So, Wentz has a little bit on the line, and he will want to put his best foot forward, keep the Chiefs' positive momentum rolling, and end the regular season on a high.
