Early returns on Kansas City Chiefs rookie cornerback Nohl Williams are very encouraging.

He has allowed only two receptions for ten yards this season, while also recording 10 total tackles and three passes defensed. Granted that he hasn't played on a full-time basis, but Williams does have the highest Pro Football Focus among all CBs in the NFL at 90.9.

Williams has only received 51 snaps on defense, but has been successful against big-name wide receivers such as A.J. Brown, Malik Nabers, and DeAndre Hopkins. His natural talent has played an obvious role in his success, but his willingness to ask questions and be taught has also paid dividends.

Nohl Williams learning from Trent McDuffie

While speaking to the media on Friday, Williams discussed what he talks about with the veteran defensive backs on the team, McDuffie in particular.

"For sure, his IQ," Williams said of McDuffie. "Just how he goes throughout the week and how he sees things. Same with the other DBs. We have a lot of good vets in our room that I can learn from by just picking their brain, [asking] how are you going to play this receiver this week? With the game plan, how do you prepare? Even [preparing] outside the building, little stuff like that."

Williams is also getting the most out of his coaches, as he credited special teams coordinator Dave Toub for teaching him how to make an impact for his unit.

"Coach Toub is a great coach," Williams said. "He's taught me so much more about the game, especially special teams. How important it is flipping the field, [and] being physical. It provides juice to the offense and defense. Special teams I take very seriously."

In a puzzling decision by Kansas City's coaching staff, Williams played just four defensive snaps during last week's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coincidentally or not, the Chiefs' secondary had one of its worst outings of the season in that game.

Hopefully Williams is more involved moving forward. He has certainly earned it, and deserves a chance to prove you can sustain his high level of play with a higher volume of snaps. He'll be put to the test yet again this week against a very talented Detroit Lions' passing attack.
