The Kansas City Chiefs came close to clinching a historic three-peat last season, but were curb-stomped by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.
Such was the manner in which the Chiefs lost, for some, their aura of invincibility has been taken away, despite the franchise still winning 15 regular-season games.
But will that mean people will now start to doubt the Chiefs? After one slip-up in the Super Bowl after being such a dominant team over the past three seasons?
If that is the case, CBS Sports has one reason for fans to be optimistic about the Chiefs in 2025, and surprise, surprise, it's because the franchise has the best quarterback in football.
"When it comes to pinpointing a reason for optimism with the Kansas City Chiefs, it seems silly not to simply mention Mahomes," CBS Sports writes. "So long as he's healthy, they are firmly in the Super Bowl mix.
"If Mahomes isn't running for his life like he was during Super Bowl LIX and is afforded just some time to throw, Kansas City will likely find itself hosting the AFC Championship."
If Mahomes is healthy for the entire season, it feels like a mere formality that the Chiefs reach the playoffs, and once there, despite the Super Bowl loss, there is still an aura about Mahomes in crunch time.
Some are writing off the Chiefs in 2025 for reasons which we don't fully understand, but they still have Mahomes and one of the best offensive play-callers in football - Andy Reid.
Those two, combined with other stars on the roster, will give the Chiefs as good a shot as anyone to make it to the Super Bowl once again.
Yes, it might look a little different, and the Super Bowl loss might be stuck in people's minds, but doubt Mahomes and the Chiefs at your peril.
