Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (5-5) dropped their second straight game this past Sunday, losing 22-19 on a last-second field goal to the Denver Broncos (9-2).
Following a stellar October that saw him throw for 1,160 yards and 10 touchdowns to three picks, while completing 72.9% of his passes, Mahomes' play has regressed this month. Through two November games, he is completing just 55.7% of his passes and has thrown one touchdown to two interceptions. He has also struggled to connect on longer passes, as according to PFF, he completed just 3-of-12 passes of 10+ yards in the team's Week 11 loss.
His struggles have led notable talking heads like Bill Simmons to voice concerns about the play of the three-time Super Bowl champion.
"They just don't look right to me and I think they're running out of time," Simmons said. "Mahomes needs to be Mahomes again. If it's going to be whatever this version is they're not going to doing jack..."
Kansas City's offensive coordinator Matt Nagy spoke to the media on Thursday, expressing what he has told the 30-year-old quarterback amid his dry spell on deep passes.
"Don't try to be perfect with it," Nagy said. "He's one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the history of this game... He can make throws that people can't make. When you're throwing a post alert over the top, which both of those basically were, sometimes just put it in the vicinity and let your guy go make a play."
Nagy also revealed that Mahomes was "pissed" that he missed those throws, as the three-time All-Pro knows just how few chances he gets to stretch the field these days with the way defenses play him.
When Mahomes spoke to the media, his response to his own issues was quite simple, which was the fact that he's just missing on throws. Being that he is one of the biggest stars the NFL has ever seen, it's safe to assume he will turn things around. With that being said, it's evident that those around the league are slightly concerned with the accuracy issues.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will have another tall test this weekend, as they are set to host the Indianapolis Colts (8-2) on Sunday.
