As the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts prepare for their Week 12 matchup, both teams are contending with key player injuries that could shape the outcome of Sunday’s game. For the Chiefs, the first two days of practice have brought a mixed bag of news, with some players returning to the field while others face new setbacks.

Chiefs’ Thursday Practice Sees Key Players Upgraded

There was a some good news for the Chiefs on Thursday as two players who sat out Wednesday’s practice made encouraging progress. Tackle Kingsley Suamataia, who suffered a concussion during the Week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos, was upgraded to limited participation. Wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who has been battling a persistent ankle injury, also returned to practice in a limited capacity after not participating on Wednesday. Their return, even in a limited role, offers a glimmer of hope that they might be available for the crucial game against the AFC South-leading Colts.

However, the news was not all positive. Running back Isiah Pacheco, who had been a full participant on Wednesday after missing the previous two games with an MCL sprain, was unexpectedly downgraded to limited participation on Thursday. The setback raises questions about his availability and adds a layer of uncertainty to a running game that has struggled in his absence. Pacheco’s powerful running style is a vital component of the Chiefs’ offense, and his potential absence would be a significant blow.

Colts Deal with Their Own Injury Questions

The Indianapolis Colts are also managing their own set of injuries as they prepare for their trip to Arrowhead Stadium. Quarterback Daniel Jones was a new addition to the injury report on Thursday, listed with a calf injury that limited his participation in practice. While reports from Indianapolis suggest the issue may not be serious, any limitation for a starting quarterback is a cause for concern.

The Colts did receive some positive news on the defensive side. Rotational defensive end Tyquan Lewis (groin) was upgraded from non-participant on Wednesday to limited on Thursday, signaling a potential return after a three-game absence. Veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward (concussion) and linebacker Jaylon Carlies (ankle) were full participants for the second straight day, increasing the likelihood they will be activated from the Reserve/Injured list before Sunday’s game. Their return would provide a much-needed boost to the Colts’ defense as they face the challenge of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ high-powered offense.

As both teams head into their final practice of the week, the status of these key players will be closely watched. The final injury report on Friday will provide a clearer picture of who will be ready to take the field in what promises to be a pivotal AFC contest.
