Chiefs could reunite with old friend DT Emmanuel Ogbah after recent news
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs could possibly reunite with an old friend, and it would make perfect sense for both sides.

As we all know by now, Charles Omenihu, the Chiefs hybrid defender who can play inside and out, will likely be out for half of the 2024 season with a torn ACL, which he had successful surgery on Tuesday. Sure, he tweeted out that he doesn't like when people try to say when he will be back, but we can assume that he will at least miss a bit of time, even if it's just Week 1.

That means the Chiefs will need to grab another defender who can play inside and out, and luckily for them, there is a new free agent who will be available, and he happens to already know the Chiefs' defensive play style under defensive coordinator Steven Spagnuolo.

According to the Miami Dolphins team Twitter account, the team is releasing Emmanuel Ogbah, who signed a four-year, $65 million deal after he posted back-to-back nine-sack seasons in 2020 and 2021 with the Dolphins.

His being cut is somewhat of a cap casualty for the Dolphins, but also, he wasn't really producing as much as they would have liked. That doesn't mean he can't be good for a team for a cheap amount.

If the Chiefs lose Mike Danna in free agency and Omenihu is out for a bit, doing a one-year deal would make a lot of sense. And Ogbah will still be 30 years old by the time Week 1 starts, so this won't quite be a Carlos Dunlap situation.

The Chiefs could certainly use Ogbah, and it wouldn't surprise me if they called him as soon as free agency opens.
