Chiefs Cut Veteran Wide Receiver Heading Into Training Camp

The Chiefs will reportedly start out training without one of their promising veteran receivers.

After starring at Clemson as a freshman where he recorded 1,000 yards on the way to the school's 2018 national title win over Alabama, disappointing follow-up seasons and career-altering spinal surgery led to Justyn Ross going undrafted four years later.

Unfortunately he was never able to catch on in Kansas City and he's now been waived, according to the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

In three seasons with the Chiefs, the ex-Tiger appeared in just 12 games with one start — ending his KC tenure with six total catches for 53 yards.

At 6-foot-4, 210 pounds with long-striding speed, Ross seemingly had all the tools to become an outstanding vertical threat at the next level as long as his body was right. And Patrick Mahomes even said as much two offseasons ago:

"Yeah, I mean, the talent is through the roof," Mahomes told USA Today. "I think anyone can see that. He's getting better and better. Even though he wasn't active all year he was in the building and he was able to see the guys and how we do things."

"Listening and being in the meetings and some of the stuff like that. I'm excited for him, man. To be able to get out there and get the reps in practice, get the little fine details that we like to do in this offense."

At 25-years-old, there's still plenty of time for Ross to find his place in the National Football League.

That journey begins today with teams around the NFL looking for camp bodies as the preseason gets underway.
