The Kansas City Chiefs have a few pressing roster needs this offseason after being exposed in the biggest game of the season. While their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles may have exposed them, their problems were there the entire season, but other teams could not capitalize.

Still, the Chiefs finished the regular season 15-2. They are considered one of the best teams in the National Football League, but they must improve their roster if they plan to reestablish themselves as such. Kansas City aims to be the best, not one of the best.

Teams do not stay the same over the offseason; they either get better or worse. It is unclear which of those is the case for the Chiefs. They have not been able to do much in free agency, but a productive draft haul could make a lot of progress on their roster.

The Pro Football Network recently projected each team's second—and third-day moves in the NFL Draft. PFN believes the Chiefs will address their offensive line in the second round of the draft. Kansas City has found plenty of talent in the second round and beyond.

"The Chiefs must attack the trenches early and often in this draft. The 2024 season saw mixed results on the offensive line. They ranked 8th in pass block win rate, but their issues at left tackle got exposed in the Super Bowl. Kansas City signed Jaylon Moore, but Logan Brown has eventual starter upside. He has undeniable power and athletic talent. He’s just inexperienced, with a single season as a starter," PFN said.

Kansas City will largely return the same team next season with a few changes from free agency and the draft. With this in mind, head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs must be prepared for a more difficult season, as most of the other teams in the league have improved this offseason.

The Chiefs are still the standard around the NFL and will be for many years. However, the Chiefs themselves must ensure that they can live up to the standard they have set over the past few years, and they do so by having a productive draft and free agency period.
