The Kansas City Chiefs have gotten a number of new wide receivers over the past couple seasons, and not all of them have been smash hits.
With the 54th pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Chiefs selected Skyy Moore out of Western Michigan University. Many thought he was going to be very solid, as he finished with just under 1,300 yards in his final year in college.
But that has not been the case.
He has under 500 yards through three seasons with the team, and has been outshined by other young receivers like Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy. Now, the team has drafted another weapon who could put Moore out of a job.
The Chiefs selected Utah State receiver Jalen Royals with the 133rd pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he could be a very solid weapon for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to throw to.
He played just seven games in his final season in college, but he still almost racked up 850 yards, as he averaged just under 120 yards per game. He adds to the expanding young wide receiver corps of the Chiefs, but Moore might not be a part of it for much longer.
If the team does decide to go in a different direction and cut the former second-round pick Moore, another team could decide to pick him up and take a chance on him.
But immediately? "Bust'' is a harsh word. ... and yet it seems to fit.
