Chris Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t secure their third win of the 2025 NFL season, falling to 2-3 after a 31-28 loss to Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars on “Monday Night Football.” Jones, a six-time All-Pro, didn’t make a big impact on the stat sheet, finishing with just one tackle and one quarterback hit. However, he played a key role in the game’s most crucial play.
With 23 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and the Chiefs clinging to a four-point lead, the Jaguars had the ball at the Kansas City 1-yard line, looking to take the lead. On first-and-goal, Lawrence took the snap but was stepped on by one of his linemen, causing him to fall.
However, he was untouched, quickly got back up and scrambled into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown. But after Lawrence went down, Jones appeared to be the only player who stopped playing, watching from the line of scrimmage as Lawrence ran in the game-winning score.
On Thursday, Jones spoke during the Chiefs’ media availability and addressed Lawrence’s touchdown run, saying he “didn’t quit” and thought the quarterback was down.
"It's a teaching point for me," Jones said. "I can't think the play is over. I thought it was over, we had him down... The teaching lesson for me is don't stop... I didn't quit. It was one of those instances where I thought he was down."

Jones also addressed deleting his social media accounts. Although fans noticed after the game, the former Mississippi State star said he had actually deleted them a few days earlier.
Up next for Jones and the Chiefs, a Week 6 battle with Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions on "Sunday Night Football." Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. on NBC and Peacock.
