Even though the Kansas City Chiefs made it all the way to the Super Bowl this past season, seeing the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers actually field competitive teams wasn't fun to witness. Both of those AFC West foes punched their tickets to the playoffs and even though neither of them won a playoff game, you better believe people are hyping those two squads up as we inch closer to the 2025 season.
For the Broncos, people are really going to home in on how prolific their defense was a season ago. The Broncos led the league in sacks in 2024 and it wasn't a close competition, with them racking up 63 tackles and the Ravens, who came in second, notching 54.
Denver continued to build on defense this offseason but although it looks as though its defense will continue to be strong, there is one clear weakness for the Broncos on that side of the ball. Even before training camp got underway, it was obvious that the linebacker position could be a massive problem in Denver.
The Broncos signed Dre Greenlaw in free agency and while he was a talented player during his time with San Francisco, he appeared in two games last year and was already dealing with an injury this offseason. Alex Singleton was also someone that Broncos fans were excited to have back after he tore his ACL early on last year but he got dinged up earlier on during camp. Lastly, Drew Sanders, a depth piece at linebacker, was carted off at practice over the weekend.
If the Broncos' worst position on defense is already having injury concerns and we haven't even gotten to the regular season yet, that could spell bad news for them. Bad news for the Broncos is obviously good news for the Chiefs though (not that we root for injuries) because that defense was looking scary. If there's any sort of weakness the Chiefs can exploit to make things easier on them in their two (maybe even three) match-ups, they'll definitely need to take advantage.
Sure, the Broncos will still probably have a good defense in 2025 but if their linebacker position continues to be in as rough of shape as it looks now, that could make the Chiefs' run to their (hopefully) 10th straight division title a much simpler one.
