The 2025 NFL season is almost here and as we inch closer to opening kickoff, some alternate uniforms were revealed to get everyone really cranked up a notch for football. The NFL debuted a new uniform series called 'Rivalries' this year with AFC East and NFC West teams each getting a new jersey that will debut in the 2025 season.
Seeing the new uniforms made Kansas City Chiefs fans wonder what an alternate uniform would look like for their team. The twist there is that the Chiefs have never had an alternate uniform. They're either wearing their traditional red tops or the white tops. Sometimes they'll rock all reds or all whites but that's as much as the Chiefs will stray when it comes to the look they sport on the field.
Chiefs president Mark Donovan has spoke on multiple occasions about the Chiefs and their lack of alternate uniforms. Every time he talks about it, he pretty much confirms what we already know - it's going to take a lot of convincing to get Clark Hunt to agree on letting his dad's beloved team wear anything other than their iconic, classic look on the gridiron.
“I think we’re the only team or among a small group that has never changed uniforms more than a little bit on the stripe or something like that,” Donovan said in July 2022. “That’s important to us too.”
Even when the NFL did the Color Rush series in the mid-2010s, the Chiefs still found a way to get around creating a new uniform by simply wearing all reds on Color Rush night. They truly are the New York Yankees when it comes to not straying from their classic look.
Some fans might like that the Chiefs stick to their guns and don't go with any of the flashy alternate looks. Other fans, however, might be frustrated that the team doesn't come up with something new and fun.
Perhaps the 'Rivalries' series will be something that the Chiefs can't skirt around when the AFC West's turn comes up in the rotation but if the Color Rush taught us anything, it could be to look forward to another red or white jersey.
