Chiefs Kingdom is going to be thrilled to see a familiar face when they turn on the season-opening game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1. That's because former K.C. safety Tyrann Mathieu is joining YouTube's broadcast team for the big event.

The Chiefs are slated to visit Sao Paulo, Brazil to face the Chargers for an international exhibition on Friday, September 5. The primetime game is going to generate big numbers for the NFL, which is why YouTube is rolling out the red carpet with a robust coverage plan that includes Mathieu among many others.

Tyrann Mathieu is an exciting addition to the Week 1 broadcast team on YouTube.

YouTube, which is hosting its first-ever exclusive NFL broadcast, has finalized its lineup of personalities for the historic game and announced them on Tuesday.

Rich Eisen will be handling play-by-play duties for the night, with Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner serving as the color commentator. Stacey Dales will handle sideline reporting.

Where Mathieu enters the picture is in the studio, as a part of YouTube's team introducing the night's action. Joining him are a pair of very familiar faces from the AFC West. In-studio host Brandon Marshall was a former wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, while Derek Carr needs no introduction as the longtime quarterback of the Las Vegas Raiders.

As for Mathieu, the 12-year safety recently announced his retirement after finishing his career back in his home of New Orleans with the Saints. His tenure in the Big Easy came after three culture-defining years with the Chiefs, a stint that brought not only Mathieu's most productive years but also his most successful.

The three-time All-Pro was a defensive centerpiece and emotional leader during his time with the Chiefs, including their Super Bowl LIV run. Chiefs fans who admired his leadership on the field will be pleased to hear him once again weigh in on Kansas City's chances from a new perspective, all while taking in the new experience that YouTube brings to the NFL in 2025.
