The Kansas City Chiefs struggled with blindside protection for years. That's why they went to great lengths to solve those issues with Ohio State rookie Josh Simmons.
Unfortunately, the joy was short-lived, as he left the team to attend to an undisclosed personal matter that forced him to miss four games. Now, one week after his return, he's finally said what all Chiefs fans wanted to hear: He's not leaving again.
When asked about the situation, the young offensive tackle confirmed that he's not going to leave again, but he chose not to get into details.
"I will be here for the rest of the season for the Kansas City Chiefs," Simmons said, per KCTV. "I just want to keep it in-house, all due respect. That’s just something I want to keep inside."
Simmons, who returned during the bye week and started in the loss to the Denver Broncos, also took some time to thank the fans for all the unwavering support during this tough time.
"I want to thank the entirety of Kansas City, and this club, for having my six during the time I was away from the team," Simmons added. "It showed how much love this team and city has for me, and I can’t wait to give it back to them."
The former first-round pick has been one of Patrick Mahomes' best friends this season, logging a 72.6 Pro Football Focus pass block grade, which ranks 27th among 76 eligible tackles. He's going to be instrumental in keeping the quarterback out of harm's way. With the Chiefs sitting on a 5-5 record and a two-game losing streak, they will certainly appreciate him being there.
