Chiefs have never done this in Patrick Mahomes era

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to bounce back in Week 2 after their disappointing season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. If they are unable to, they will do something they have never done before in the Patrick Mahomes era.

ESPN's Adam Schefter noted on Sunday that the Chiefs have never lost three straight since Mahomes was named their starting quarterback. A loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at home on Sunday would be the third in a row for Andy Reid's team.

The Chiefs' game against the Eagles is a rematch of Super Bowl LIX, which the Eagles won 40-22. That was Kansas City's previous game before losing to L.A.

Kansas City's passing defense was its biggest issue in the loss to the Chargers. Justin Herbert completed 25-of-34 passes for 318 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. The Eagles are a run-first team with Saquon Barkley, but the Chiefs were burned several times against L.A. by dialing up pressure and selling out for the run. That can't happen on Sunday against Jalen Hurts, who is also capable of beating a defense with his legs or arms.

Good teams rarely ever string losses together, and Mahomes and Reid have avoided dropping three straight for the past seven years. That should give them added motivation to avoid a 0-2 start to the 2025 season.
