Chiefs HC Andy Reid discusses OT's penalty issues

The 25-year-old has already been called for a whopping six penalties through three games this month, including a trio of false starts.

Taylor was flagged seven times (two false starts) in 16 games as a rookie in 2019 and picked up six penalties (four false starts) over 16 contests in 2020. He played clean football through all 17 games in 2021 but was flagged six times again (three false starts) last season.

The bulk of Taylor's problems stem from his questionable positioning on the line of scrimmage.

The fifth-year pro appeared to consistently be one step ahead of the snap, while also illegally lining up off of the line of scrimmage throughout Kansas City's season-opening loss to the Detroit Lions. After Taylor's alleged acts were mentioned multiple times by announcers during the NBC broadcast, officials finally threw their first flag against the University of Florida product late in the fourth quarter.

Taylor has played 194 offensive snaps (93%) and 14 on special teams in his first season with the Chiefs. The former second-round pick played between 1,000 and 1,110 offensive snaps every year from his rookie campaign through 2022, including 100% of them over his first three campaigns with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Taylor's miscues haven't hurt Kansas City's offense much thus far, as the Chiefs currently rank fifth in passing yards per game (275.7), sixth in yards per game (390.3), 10th in rushing yards per contest (114.7) and 10th in points per game (26.0).
