Chiefs' issues at one position could hurt Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to bounce back from a very rough 2025-26 season. How rough? Well, this team is used to going all the way nearly every year, and they didn't even make the playoffs.

Looking at this upcoming season, the team will have to face tough competition in the AFC West, especially the Denver Broncos, who almost made it to the Super Bowl last season. The good news is that franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes should be available for most of the season, following rehab after an ACL and LCL tear last season.

But this team needs more than Mahomes. That's the problem.

Chiefs have a big problem at wide receiver

One NFL analyst said the Chiefs have a big problem this season: wide receiver. Jared Dubin of CBS Sports released a ranking on Friday that lists every team's wide receiver room, from best to worst. For the Chiefs, they're at No. 29.

"With Rashee Rice still looking hobbled after rehabbing his knee injury in jail and Xavier Worthy again banged up in camp, the Chiefs might be counting on training-camp star Cyrus Allen to be a real factor, rather than a mere curiosity. That's a dangerous game to play," Dubin said.

So, as Dubin puts it, the Chiefs are "not helping" Mahomes at all. He'll look to other targets, such as new running back Kenneth Walker III or his longtime friend, tight end Travis Kelce. But the Chiefs would be wise to try to shape up this wide receiver situation regardless.
