Chiefs LB Willie Gay Jr. roasts Zach Wilson, Jets offense

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay Jr. left little doubt on Wednesday he's not fearing a New York Jets offense guided by quarterback Zach Wilson ahead of the upcoming "Sunday Night Football" matchup between the teams.

As shared by Sam Neumann of The Comeback and Aaron Ladd of Kansas City television station KSHB, Gay was asked Wednesday what he's seen on tape regarding the Jets offense with Wilson in the lineup. Gay attempted to remain respectful but blasted his to-be opponents in the process.

"That was a hard question, I can’t lie," Gay responded. "A team that wants to run the ball."

Wilson rose to the top of New York's depth chart when Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn Achilles in Week 1 and is, statistically speaking, arguably the league's worst quarterback heading into October. Per ESPN stats, Wilson ranks last among all qualified players with a 57.0 passer rating and 52.4% completion percentage. He's also 33rd out of 34 signal-callers with a 26.7 adjusted QBR.

The Jets lost both of Wilson's starts after they won the season opener, while the Chiefs are 2-1.

"...That wasn’t to be funny or anything, but [Aaron Rodgers] got hurt and it turned into a team [that’s in] panic mode almost," Gay continued. "That’s what I see, at least. They got great running backs, so they just trying to pound it—pound and ground...Like I said, three great ones, so I feel like that’s their game plan."

The "great running backs," such as Dalvin Cook and Breece Hall, helped the Jets accumulate just 38 rushing yards in this past Sunday's 15-10 loss to the New England Patriots. Meanwhile, Jets head coach Robert Saleh is attempting to prevent a locker-room mutiny as he continues to play Wilson over unproven backup Tim Boyle. Boyle, 28, has attempted only 106 career regular-season passes but could be called into action if Gay and company chase Wilson out of Sunday's prime-time encounter.
