The Kansas City Chiefs came into Week 3 with two primary goals. It wasn't always pretty—in fact, it never was—but the Chiefs checked both boxes. Not only did they leave MetLife Stadium with a win over the New York Giants, but they also came away relatively healthy. Considering how the night could have gone, the Chiefs should feel good about things on Monday morning.
The Chiefs weren't without their share of health scares on the field on Sunday Night Football. Safety Bryan Cook landed awkwardly on his neck in the end zone after trying to defend a deep pass from Russell Wilson to Malik Nabers.
Both players lay on the field for a spell before getting up, but Cook required quite a bit of time with the training staff before making his way slowly to the locker room.
Shortly thereafter, the Chiefs also saw defensive lineman Charles Omenihu go down a few plays later, which tested the team's depth on the edge. Fortunately Omenihu was able to return later in the game.
As it turns out, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said everything looks good following the game. “I really don’t have any injuries. Bryan Cook was okay at the end of it, so everybody else made it through.”
The Chiefs initially designated Cook as questionable to return but he remained out for the duration of. the game. Clearly, the Chiefs' medical staff felt good about his condition going forward, however, and it appears the team won't be too concerned about lasting effects.
The ability of the Chiefs to come through without any injury concerns is a major development for a team slowly coming together. The Chiefs are already waiting on multiple players to make their way back to the roster, including wide receiver Xavier Worthy, defensive back Nazeeh Johnson, and wideout Rashee Rice (who is suspended).
Cook's avoidance of major injury is also a serious plus for the Chiefs' safety depth, which isn't good after the core trio that also includes Jaden Hicks and Chamarri Conner.
While the 22-9 victory was the opposite of any exhibition of great football, the Chiefs came away with a very important win after losing the first two games of the season. Now they head home with a chance at .500 and some respectability against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4.
