There are a lot of things that can put you on your backside in professional sports, and for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, a 40-22 Super Bowl loss will do it.
With the three-peat dream now dead, and such was how the Chiefs and Mahomes were disarmed and dismantled, it has been back to the drawing board of sorts, according to coordinator Matt Nagy.
However, Mahomes isn't a stranger to losing big games, having lost two Super Bowls now. For Nagy, Patrick was on point as soon as the offseason workouts began, as he sought ideas on how to improve.
“He came in here after the Super Bowl, the first day we had him and he was so locked in and it wasn't this angry pissed off at the world like got to get back at people revenge thing that's not what it was,” Nagy said. “It's just a calm, professional want to get better and use it in the right way, and it's a strong positivity in that room right now it's been great.”
Many are jumping off the Chiefs bandwagon in 2025, with the Super Bowl loss a key reason why, but we aren't there just yet.
A returning Rashee Rice, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown for a full season, the improvement (they hope) in the offensive line along with Travis Kelce, the offense under Mahomes does have room to grow.
After all, last season was seen as perhaps one of the worst offenses Mahomes had led, and they still won 15 regular-season games and the AFC.
So this offseason is all about finding ways to get better, and the Super Bowl loss might have accelerated that process for Mahomes and the Chiefs.
