The Kansas City Chiefs are already deep into offseason evaluations following a disappointing 6–11 finish in 2025, the franchise’s worst record in over a decade and its first absence from the playoffs since 2014. The season was further derailed by Patrick Mahomes’ season-ending knee injury, and Kansas City finished the remainder of the season with diminished offensive production.
Following the disappointing campaign, discussions around possible changes on the Chiefs’ coaching staff have grown, particularly involving offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.
Nagy, who took over play-calling duties and the OC role in 2023, has been linked to multiple head coaching vacancies across the league, with teams such as the Tennessee Titans reportedly scheduling in-person interviews for their head coach opening, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
His name has also surfaced in conversations around the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders, as franchises assess their options for leadership in 2026.
With Nagy expected to be in the mix for head coaching jobs, the Chiefs are looking at a familiar face for their offensive coordinator vacancy, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The team is requesting permission to interview Chicago Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy for the OC position, Rapoport confirmed on Monday.

Bieniemy’s resume includes extensive experience with the Chiefs, where he previously served as offensive coordinator and running backs coach during some of the franchise’s most successful years, helping guide an offense that became one of the NFL’s most explosive units from 2018-22. His familiarity with Andy Reid’s offensive philosophy and his history with players like Mahomes make him a logical candidate in Kansas City’s eyes.
If hired, Bieniemy would be stepping into a role previously held by Nagy, who worked alongside Reid and contributed to Kansas City’s recent offensive identity.
Despite the coaching buzz, nothing is official yet, and Nagy has not signed with a new team.
