Chiefs Make Coaching Move on Thursday

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding new Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The Chiefs decided to bring Bieniemy back after three seasons away from the team. The 56-year-old comes in as the replacement for Matt Nagy, who is pursuing a head coaching role elsewhere.

Bieniemy spoke to the media for the first time on Wednesday, expressing his delight at rejoining the team. He shared his excitement about working with Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, and revealed that a phone call from Andy Reid convinced him to return to Kansas City.

Bieniemy and the Chiefs are now busy forming his offensive coaching staff. Reports emerged on Thursday that they are looking to reunite with another former coach.

Deland McCullough is currently the running backs coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. He joined the team for the 2025 season following stints with the Indiana Hoosiers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in college.

However, before McCullough coached in the NCAA, he was the Chiefs’ RB coach for three seasons. He worked under Bieniemy, who at that time was the Chiefs’ OC.

Bieniemy could soon reunite with McCullough. According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are looking to poach McCullough from the Raiders.

“Chiefs requested to interview Raiders RB coach Deland McCullough for their running back position. McCullough was with the Chiefs from 2018-20,” Schefter posted on X.

It is important to note, however, that this would be a lateral move for McCullough and not a promotion. As such, the Raiders are in a position to block the interview.

This latest development follows the Chiefs’ decision to hire two new assistant coaches. C.J. Cox has reportedly been brought in as the new safeties coach, while Nate Pagan will be hired as wide receivers coach.

The Chiefs have also already parted ways with multiple coaches during the offseason, including Connor Embree (WR coach), Mark DeLeone (RB coach), Todd Pinkston (RB coach), Louie Addazio (defensive line coach) and Alex Whittingham (DL coach).
