As the Kansas City Chiefs retool for a fourth straight Super Bowl run in 2025, the team has a contract decision to make on wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.

The 2018 Pro Bowler has had a rough couple of years as he simple hasn't been able to make the kind of impact that he once did with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2024, despite playing in 14 games he had just 18 receptions for 231 yards and two touchdowns. While you could attribute that to the Chiefs having too many mouths to feed, he isn't even being targeted twice per game.

Nevertheless, the Chiefs appear ready to give Smith-Schuster another shot with them. According to FOX NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs are re-signing Smith-Schuster for the 2025 season.

"BREAKING: The #Chiefs are re-signing WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, multiple sources tell @NFLonFOX . A key weapon for Patrick Mahomes stays in Kansas City," Schultz reported.

While It's been over five years since Smith-Schuster was a serious force at wide receiver, he's one of the few ex-Pro Bowlers that were available in free agency. In 2018, his second year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Smith-Schuster had 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl selection for his efforts.

But injuries and a steep decline in production ultimately ended his time in Pittsburgh after five years. He signed with the Chiefs in 2022 and won a Super Bowl, then spent 2023 with the New England Patriots and won just a few games.

He came back to Kansas City in 2024 and appeared in 14 games, starting eight.

Smith-Schuster is still fairly young though. He's only 28 years old and won't hit 30 until midway through the 2026 season.

Will Smith-Schuster be an impact player for the Chiefs this year?
