The Kansas City Chiefs are navigating a pivotal offseason for the short-term future of the franchise, with all focus centered around the recovery and return timeline of starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes could only lead the Chiefs to a 6-8 record before being shut down, while the team ultimately ended with an overall 6-11 in 2025, their first losing season since 2012, and the first one without postseason football in Kansas City since 2014.
The Chiefs' franchise player has targeted a Week 1 return, and head coach Andy Reid provided a positive update on Mahomes’ status last Saturday, saying, “He’s doing great.”
As Mahomes works back from his season-ending knee injury involving torn ACL and LCL ligaments, the Chiefs highlighted a different, brighter side of his offseason activity on Saturday.
The Chiefs shared a post on their social media accounts revealing Mahomes' latest off-field endeavors.
"QB1 and @15andMahomies hosted their annual Read for 15 event this week, encouraging elementary-aged students to form the habit of reading each day "
The event is part of Mahomes’ "15 and the Mahomies Foundation," which focuses on improving the lives of children through education, health, and community programs.
Photos from the event included in the Chiefs' post show Mahomes reading to students and posing with children participating in the program, which challenges them to read at least 15 minutes per day over a multi-week period.

This initiative has become a central part of Mahomes’ off-field efforts since launching the foundation in 2019, when it was announced.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his on-field availability, it's obvious Mahomes has remained active and uplifted throughout his community initiatives.
That said, and just to cover their backs, the Chiefs made a savvy move this offseason and traded for veteran backup quarterback Justin Fields in case Mahomes isn't ready in time for the start of the 2026 season.
