Chiefs Make Roster Decisions On Harrison Butker, Backup Kicker Matthew Wright

The Kansas City Chiefs are getting Harrison Butker for the final stretch of the 2024 regular season.

Butker has been sidelined since Nov. 10 due to a left knee injury. He underwent surgery to make sure he could be ready for the playoffs. The Chiefs initially signed Spencer Shrader to replace him, but he went down with a hamstring injury. That forced Kansas City to scan the kicker market again. The defending champions ultimately settled on Matthew Wright.

Wright was the hero for the Chiefs in Week 14, making a game-winning field goal against the Los Angeles Chargers. He actually made all four of his field goal attempts last weekend, which is why he was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Now that Butker is ready to go, Wright has been released. It's a cruel world, but every player in the NFL knows that it's a business.

As for Butker, he's been officially activated to the 53-man roster. That means he's good to go against the Cleveland Browns.

Butker has been great for the Chiefs this year, making 18-of-20 field goal attempts. He has also connected on 21-of-22 extra point attempts.

One thing the Chiefs love about Butker is his ability to make big kicks in the high-pressure situations. After all, he holds the record for longest made field goal in Super Bowl history. He drilled a 57-yard attempt for Kansas City back in February.

With a playoff berth already clinched, it wouldn't shock us at all if Butker makes another clutch field goal for the Chiefs in January.
