We are the portion of the offseason work where rookies and veterans alike are getting back into the swing of things, and for the Kansas City Chiefs, that means the third minicamp practice.
With the defending AFC champs being put through their paces, somewhat cautiously, due to the NFL CBA, with physical contact being rather limited. However, this is the time when players learn the system, new wrinkles of said system, and their new teammates, so while it is voluntary, some think it is essential for everyone to attend.
However, on Thursday, per Arrowhead Pride, the Chiefs didn't have everyone attending. In fact, a total of five players were missing. Dru Tranquill, Tre Watson, Travis Kelce, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Trey Smith.
Now, before fans get up in arms over these key players missing an OTA practice, remember, it is voluntary, so they don't have to be in the building.
Still, in an ideal world, it would have been nice to get the whole roster on the field, working towards the same goal.
However, the Chiefs have won two Super Bowls in the last three seasons and made it to the NFL's penultimate game in their third year, so we believe the franchise and head coach Andy Reid know what they are doing.
With training camp still a month or so away, it will be there that the Chiefs will want perfect attendance because that is where the real work begins as the franchise looks to rebound from the brutal Super Bowl loss.
So the Chiefs are moving through their offseason work in preparation for training camp, and while some stars were absent, it isn't the end of the world.
