The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game next weekend, and Patrick Mahomes knows it will be quite a battle.
Following the Chiefs’ thrilling win over the Buffalo Bills in their Divisional Round playoff matchup on Sunday night, Mahomes spoke on the challenge of facing the Ravens.
“No weakness there,” Mahomes told Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports. “It’s going to take our best effort. Defense, offense, special teams, they do it all. It’s always a great challenge, and that stadium is going to be rocking.”
Mahomes’ win over the Bills marked the first road playoff victory of his career, as he had yet to play on the road in his 15 previous postseason starts.
“We were here to prove a point and show that we can play anywhere,” Mahomes said.
The two-time MVP went 17-for-23 with 215 yards and a couple of touchdowns in Kansas City’s 27-24 win over Buffalo.
Now, he and the Chiefs will continue their road quest as they travel to M&T Bank Stadium to clash with a Ravens team that just hammered the Houston Texans by a score of 34-10 in their own Divisional Round matchup.
The good news for Kansas City is that Baltimore has actually been fairly vulnerable at home this season, going 7-3 in its own building (including playoffs) while going 7-1 away from home.
Regardless, this is the battle everyone has been waiting for the last several years: a showdown between Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, two of the NFL’s best quarterbacks.
Jackson will likely win his second MVP award this year after a spectacular regular season in which he led the Ravens to the best record in the league. He then shook off some playoff demons with a brilliant performance against the Texans.
We’ll see if Patrick Mahomes and Co. can make it to their fourth Super Bowl in five years next Sunday.
