Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes reveals he relishes being a road-game 'villain'

Although Arrowhead Stadium is one of the best home-field advantages in the NFL, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes loves playing spoiler on the road.

"I like to be the villain a little bit," Mahomes recently said during an interview with CBS News. "Obviously, it's cool at Arrowhead to be the hero and win games and host the AFC championship trophy. But it's just as fun, no offense to my division opponents, to go their places and win those games."

Since entering the league in 2017, Mahomes— a two-time MVP— leads the league in road victories (33). His numbers are excellent, too. In 42 road games, he's thrown 109 TDs, completed 67.7 percent of his passes and posted a 110.9 passer rating.

Mahomes' road prowess also helped the Chiefs continue their streak of seven consecutive AFC West titles. He's 6-0 against the Broncos, 5-0 against the Chargers and 5-1 against the Raiders.

Kansas City needs this trend to continue because it faces some tricky road contests this season. From Week 1 to Week 5, the Chiefs only play at Arrowhead twice, traveling to Jacksonville (Week 2), New York (Week 4) and Minnesota (Week 5). The meeting with the Jaguars is one to circle because the Chiefs eliminated them in a 27-20 divisional-round victory last season.

Also, in Week 18, the Chiefs face the Chargers on the road. The matchup could have AFC West title implications if Los Angeles QB Justin Herbert reaches the next level under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

Regardless, Kansas City can trust the 27-year-old since he's led the organization to two Super Bowls over the past four years and is the best QB in the NFL.
