Chiefs postseason hero set to take free agent visit with an AFC West rival
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

A former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver is set to take a free agent visit with an AFC West rival.

As first reported by 33rd Team's Ari Meirov, ex-Chiefs WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling will be in the building to visit the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday. They've been a team seeking to add wide receiver help following the 2024 NFL draft, already adding former Jags, Lions, and Panthers WR D.J. Chark to the mix.

During his two seasons with the Chiefs, Valdes-Scantling won back-to-back Super Bowl titles. He was released as a salary-cap casualty for Kansas City this offseason, freeing $12M in cap space . The move helped the Chiefs retain players like Drue Tranquill and Chris Jones.

Valdes-Scantling appeared in 33 regular season games and seven postseason games with the Chiefs. He recorded 78 receptions for 1,252 yards and six touchdowns in those two seasons. After a tough regular season campaign in 2023, Valdes-Scantling made some big plays in the postseason, especially leading up to and during the Super Bowl LVIII. He generally had a reputation for clutch performances in the postseason.

After his release this past offseason, Valdes-Scantling might have a bone to pick with his former team. If he signs with the Chargers he'll get at least two chances to prove the decision-makers in Kansas City wrong for cutting him.
