The Kansas City Chiefs are undergoing a major roster reset after going 6-11 to finish off the 2025 NFL Season. While both sides of the ball have seen departures, the defensive back corps has been hit especially hard. After trading cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City lost safety Bryan Cook ( Cincinnati Bengals ) and Jaylen Watson (Rams) in free agency.
While the front office has worked toward easing the pain by signing former Baltimore Ravens safety Alohi Gilman and former Miami Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou, the additions still don't match the losses. With free agency open since March 11, options are beginning to slim.
As the offseason rolls on, Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News predicts that the Chiefs will reunite with cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. He spent four years with Kansas City before being traded to the Tennessee Titans in 2024.
After landing with Tennessee, he signed a four-year, $76.4 million contract, set to run through the 2027 season. However, after just two seasons with the Titans, he was released and is now free to sign with any team.
Sneed was limited to just seven games in 2025 after a season-ending quad injury in Week 7. He struggled when healthy, allowing 19 completions, 257 yards, three touchdowns and a 120 passer rating on 31 targets. He earned an overall grade of 50.4 from Pro Football Focus, ranking 104th out of 114 cornerbacks.
However, reuniting with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo could help the 29-year-old turn things around. Sneed's best years came with Kansas City, racking up 303 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 40 pass deflections and 10 interceptions over four seasons.
The former fourth-round pick out of Louisiana Tech also started both of the Chiefs' back-to-back Super Bowl wins to close out the 2022 and 2023 seasons. A reunion could be beneficial for both sides.
