Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Earns New Nickname on Sunday

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is at the center of one of the best QB duels in the NFL on Sunday with the Chiefs hosting Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.

Before the game, NFL on CBS analyst Tony Romo offered a great breakdown of how three-time Super Bowl MVP Mahomes uses his mental edge to outsmart his competition.

"Patrick Mahomes learns throughout the game better than anybody, that's his trait," Romo said of the Chiefs star. "He's AI. He is literally producing information in his brain faster than others."

After the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback brought up artificial intellegence, it led his fellow analyst Nate Burleson to give Mahomes the nickname "PatGPT."

"I think you just gave him a new nickname," Burleson joked. "The dude's working with AI under the helmet."

This season, Mahomes is off to a slow start that matches the Chiefs' 1-2 record. He is averaging 223 passing yards per game and has thrown for three touchdowns to one interception.

But according to Romo, every single snap gives him more information to work with down the line. No matter the result of the game, Mahomes is increasing his processing power.

He explained that Mahomes will pick up on detailed mannerisms like foot positioning of defensive players throughout a game in order to use them against the defense in future late-game situations.

He added that he has seen Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who is a year younger than Mahomes, beginning to develop the same trait.

Romo has never been shy about his adoration of Mahomes and Allen — a pattern that fans have been quick to point out in the past.

Romo is in his ninth season as a color commentator for CBS. He is calling Sunday's game alongside veteran play-by-play broadcaster Jim Nantz, with reporter Tracy Wolfson patrolling the sidelines.
