Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are looking forward to 2026 after a tough 2025 season. After reaching at least the AFC Championship Game every season since Mahomes took over as a starter, Kansas City failed to make the postseason last year. The Chiefs ended the season at 6-11, finishing No. 3 in the AFC West behind Sean Payton and the 14-3 Denver Broncos and Jim Harbaugh and the 11-6 Los Angeles Chargers.

Mahomes is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The 6-foot-2 quarterback had surgery in December to repair the torn ligaments and is expected to return before the start of the 2026 NFL season.

The rehabilitation process is not the only thing Mahomes has his eyes set on, as his attention is also focused on the crosstown Kansas City Royals. On Wednesday, the Royals announced that they are unveiling a plan to ensure they remain in Kansas City. The Royals are teaming up with Hallmark Cards to build a stadium in downtown Kansas City.

That same Wednesday, Mahomes went to social media to support the Royals’ new business endeavor. On his Instagram Story, Mahomes posted a screenshot of the promotional image the Royals have used to promote the unveiling. The two-time NFL MVP posted the graphic with a blurb about Royals founder Ewing Kauffman. The star quarterback also tagged @KCRoyals. Mahomes understands his profile in Kansas City and is using his credibility to support the cross-sport pollination endeavor of the new Royals stadium.

“Our founder, Ewing Kauffman, wanted the Royals to be Kansas City’s forever team, and he wanted the team to benefit his hometown as much as possible,” John Sherman, chairman and CEO, said.

Dr. Dan Cooper performed successful surgery on Mahomes’ torn right ACL on Dec. 14, 2025.
