Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes says sore toe is 'pretty close to 100 percent'

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and reigning Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Patrick Mahomes is a heavy favorite to repeat as MVP and is apparently reading defenses better as he prepares to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Sunday's Super Bowl LV matchup at Raymond James Stadium.

However, the 25-year-old entered the concussion protocol and suffered a toe injury during the victory over the Cleveland Browns on Jan. 17. While Mahomes was cleared to face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game, some questions about his health lingered as of early Tuesday.

That should no longer be the case, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, as Mahomes is claiming that the toe is feeling “a lot better” and that he is "pretty close to 100 percent" with less than a week to go before the title game.

For the most part, Mahomes seemed quite healthy when he completed 29 of 38 pass attempts for 325 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions and a passer rating of 127.6 in the win over Buffalo on Jan. 24. No signal-caller, regardless of durability or age, is 100% at this stage of a season, but the Buccaneers should expect to see Mahomes at his physical best on Sunday.
