Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are navigating a challenging season, now 5‑5 after their Week 11 loss to the Denver Broncos. The defeat kept them in third place in the AFC West and puts their playoff hopes in jeopardy as they now risk missing the postseason for the first time since 2014.
This season, the Chiefs have struggled to maintain consistency, and Mahomes has faced mounting scrutiny over uncharacteristic mistakes and misfires. While flashes of brilliance remain, the team’s recent slide could prove costly in a division full of contenders, compounded by one of the toughest remaining schedules in the league.
Mahomes himself has endured a difficult stretch this season for a player of his caliber. Through 10 games, he has completed 233 of 361 passes (64.5 percent) for 2,625 yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions, posting a passer rating of 95.9.
As the team prepares to make amends in Week 12, Mahomes addressed the inconsistencies this season and his struggles on deep passes (via Chiefs reporter Charles Goldman).
“I’m just not making the throws, that’s the biggest thing,” Mahomes said. “It might not be the perfect pass, but if I can throw the ball and give them a chance to make the play... being better and giving guys chances to make plays usually works out.”

His remarks come as Kansas City is 0‑3 in games decided by seven points or less, compared with 10‑0 in close contests last season. The offense has also looked far from the dynamic scheme that head coach Andy Reid has made a hallmark of the franchise.
Despite consecutive losses, Mahomes and the Chiefs are not to be counted out. The two-time MVP has produced some notable performances this season, including 257 yards and three touchdowns against the Detroit Lions and 286 yards with three scores versus the Las Vegas Raiders. His track record suggests he is still capable of reversing the team’s fortunes.
As the Chiefs prepare to host the 8-2 Indianapolis Colts, Mahomes and Kansas City aim to rebound. Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS, providing another opportunity for Mahomes to reestablish his signature dominance and keep Kansas City in the playoff conversation.
