Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes to have 'very light practice,' remain in concussion protocol

The story largely remains the same regarding Kansas City Chiefs superstar starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the reigning Super Bowl MVP is set to participate in "a very light practice" on Wednesday while remaining in the concussion protocol following the head injury he suffered in last Sunday's playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns. The 25-year-old is reporting no concussion symptoms halfway through the midweek, and according to Rapoport, won't miss out on much as he and his teammates prepare to face the Buffalo Bills in this coming Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

Mahomes was sidelined in the third quarter of the win over Cleveland and was ultimately ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Journeyman veteran Chad Henne filled in for Mahomes and would get the start against Buffalo if Kansas City's first-choice option at the position isn't cleared by late Sunday afternoon.

The fact that Mahomes continues to report no symptoms and is engaging in any physical activity suggests he should be good to go this weekend as long as he encounters no setbacks. An independent neurological consultant must clear Mahomes to return to the lineup, meaning he and the Chiefs still have plenty of nervous hours ahead of them.
