It has been a busy past few days for Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. After the four-time All-Pro first-team tight end skipped the Pro Bowl Games on Tuesday, Kelce took part in a pro-am golf tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Wednesday morning. He headed to San Francisco that same day to attend a Super Bowl party for his “New Heights” podcast.

On Thursday, the Chiefs TE was in attendance for the NFL Honors at the Palace of Fine Arts. He was one of 32 nominees for the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. This was the second straight year he was nominated for the honor.

Each of the 32 teams in the league names its Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee. The award recognizes players who have had “a significant positive impact on his community.” It was named after the late Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton.

Kelce’s Eighty-Seven & Running Foundation has raised millions of dollars over the years to support the underprivileged folks in Kansas City. According to its website, the foundation aims to empower "disadvantaged youth to achieve success by providing resources and support to their communities and cultivating their talent in the areas of education, business, athletics, STEM, and the arts.”

One of Kelce’s biggest projects is the Ignition Lab. In partnership with Operation Breakthrough, Kelce established a development hub in Kansas City for teenagers.

Unfortunately, Kelce lost out on the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. The title went toWashington Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner. The 10-time Pro Bowler’s charitable work focuses on stroke research and rehabilitation in honor of his late mother, Phenia Mae.

Kelce and Wagner crossed paths backstage right after the latter received his award. The Chiefs star embraced Wagner and congratulated him on the win. Kelce expressed how proud and happy he was for Wagner.

The Chiefs shared the video on Instagram along with a heartfelt reaction to the endearing moment.

“All love ❤️” the team wrote.

Kelce may have lost the award for a second consecutive year, but that did not prevent him from giving Wagner the credit he is due. After all, both stars, along with the 30 other nominees, are all doing great things for their communities.
