Chiefs Rookie Lands 'In Exactly the Right Place'

We often hear around the league that "where you get drafted to matters," and for Josh Simmons, heading to the Kansas City Chiefs might be his best landing spot.

He will be going to a contender, and one that is known for its culture and ability to bring players along, coach them the right way, and put them in the best spot to succeed.

Simmons will come in and likely serve as Jaylon Moore's backup, as the former San Francisco 49er was signed in free agency to a two-year deal to be Patrick Mahomes' left tackle.

Simmons comes to the Chiefs with the luxury, if you want to call it that, of learning behind some veterans and isn't under pressure to step in on Day 1 and protect the best quarterback in football.

And for Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Simmons went to exactly the right spot for his development.

"I think Ohio State OT Josh Simmons landed in exactly the right place to fulfill his considerable potential," Breer wrote. "And the Kansas City Chiefs might have their left tackle for the next decade."

Given the Chiefs' inability to adequately protect Mahomes last season (47 sacks including playoffs), the hope is that with the addition of Moore alone, that will help fortify the line.

Of course, it isn't an exact science, and Kingsley Suamataia is slated to get first crack at left guard with Joe Thuney now in Chicago.

The offensive line was a big problem for the Chiefs last season, and now, with perhaps one of the better linemen in the draft coming to Kansas City, maybe it really is the best place for Simmons to be.

Mahomes needs protection, and a career backup might not be the answer, which could allow Simmons to flourish for a franchise known for getting the most out of its players.

Where you're drafted matters.
