Chiefs rookie Rashee Rice quiets WR questions in win vs. Raiders

Following the victory, K.C. quarterback Patrick Mahomes praised Rice and indicated he has untapped potential.

"I think we've only scratched the surface, honestly," the two-time MVP told the media. "I think he can do some of the vertical threat stuff. He has speed [and] he has burst — and you can see all of that when he has the football in his hands."

Kansas City leads the league in drops (28), via Pro Football Reference. The inconsistent pass-catchers have slowed a high-powered offense. The Chiefs are averaging 23.3 points per game this season, compared to 29.2 last season.

Getting Rice more involved could help the offense regain its lost firepower. In the victory against Las Vegas, he recorded a season-high in targets (10), and the Chiefs (8-3) scored 30 or more points for the third time this season.

The 23-year-old has been productive despite a low snap count. Per Pro Football Reference, Rice has only played 49 percent of offensive snaps, but he's second on the team in receptions (44) and receiving yards (527).

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid's offense is difficult to learn, especially for young WRs. However, Mahomes believes the rookie is starting to grasp the system, and the team should give him more targets.

"There's little things here and there we're going to continue to work on, but for the most part, he learns from his mistakes and continues to get better every single week," Mahomes said. "He can take that step. He has the ability."
