Chiefs rookie shows exactly why his coach is worried about losing him
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Chiefs rookie DB Chamarri Conner didn't take long to prove special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Dave Toub right.

Just this past week, Toub praised Conner for his performance on special teams. He also acknowledged that Conner is not long for playing on special teams.

"He keeps getting better and better."

"He's going to be a great one down the road."

"He’s a player that you should be excited about.”

Well, if Chiefs fans weren't listening then, they're surely listening to Toub now.

Just when Kansas City was at its lowest moment in the Week 14 game against the Buffalo Bills, the rookie came up with the biggest play of his young career. He undercut a Josh Allen throw and returned an interception just past midfield to give the team a chance in the red zone.

Patrick Mahomes would go on to lead the offense on a nine-play, 52-yard scoring drive, giving the Chiefs their first points of the Week 14 game. It cut a 14-point deficit in half, desperately giving the offense some confidence that they can build heading into the first half.

None of it would be possible without Conner's first career NFL interception. It's no wonder that Toub thinks he's going to lose one of his best players to Steve Spagnuolo, and that play right there just might have cemented it.

The play also gets the Chiefs closer to what could potentially be a major advantage for Kansas City in this one. You can read about that below.
