Wide receiver was the Buffalo Bills’ biggest area of need heading into the 2024 NFL draft.
So when the team was on the clock with the 28th overall pick last April, many fans were surprised when they traded their pick along with 133rd and 248th overall picks to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 32nd, 95th and 221st overall picks.
With that pick, the Chiefs drafted speedy Texas wideout Xavier Worthy — a player many draft analysts had linked to the Bills in mock drafts — while Buffalo settled for Florida State’s Keon Coleman five picks later.
Worthy, who totaled 59 catches, 638 yards and six touchdowns, had a better rookie season than Coleman, who logged 29 catches, 556 yards and four touchdowns, and he’s one win away from winning a Super Bowl in his first season.
So when Worthy was asked about the Bills passing on him in the draft after Kansas City’s 32-29 AFC championship win, the 21-year-old took the opportunity to take a subtle shot at the team for overlooking him.
“I’ve said it once — they skipped on me, that’s their loss,” Worthy said.

Not only did Worthy have more production over the course of the season, he also outperformed Coleman in Sunday’s AFC Championship game. Worthy logged six catches for 85 yards and touchdown and made an impact on the final score, while Coleman had just one catch for 12 yards.
With DeAndre Hopkins, Marquise Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster all hitting free agency in the offseason, the door is open for Worthy to be Kansas City’s No. 2 WR next season behind Rashee Rice.
Conversely, Coleman was third in targets during the regular season (57) and tied for the fifth-most targets in the offseason (four), and he could be as low as third on Buffalo’s depth chart next season behind Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel. If Amari Cooper re-signs, he could even be bumped down to fourth.
Worthy may have felt slighted on draft night, but after Sunday’s game, he’s likely at peace with how things ultimately shook out.
