Mock draft season is always exciting for fans of all 32 teams, but the Kansas City Chiefs fans have more reasons than anyone to tune in. The team currently has two first-round picks following the Trent McDuffie trade, and the organization must hit on both selections to orchestrate another deep playoff run. The core of the team is getting older, and Patrick Mahomes is coming off an ACL injury, so it’s never been more important for the Chiefs to land a young, dynamic playmaker who can make life easier for the two-time NFL MVP.
In the site’s latest mock draft, Bleacher Report’s Dame Parson made his case for the Chiefs selecting Tennessee wide receiver Chris Brazzell. The redshirt Junior is coming off a strong season, finishing the year with 1,017 yards and nine touchdowns in 12 games.
“Brazzell is a physically gifted and vertical playmaker with top-end speed,” Parson said. “The Chiefs’ offense needs more talent at the receiver position. Brazzell is more than a deep threat. He’s a smooth route-runner and mover with deceptive pacing and tempo. He has a high ceiling if properly developed.”
The first thing that jumps off the screen with Chris Brazzell is his speed. The first-round hopeful has elite physical gifts, and he knows how to use his tools to take the top off the defense. His 4.37 40-yard dash ranked in the 89th percentile of wide receivers, and his 16.4 yards per catch last year show how dangerous he can be at any given moment. He’s one of the few players who is a legitimate home run threat every single time he touches the football, which means he should find an immediate role with whichever team drafts him.
The reason the Chiefs can get a player like Brazzell at the end of the first round in this mock draft is that he’s not the most complete player. While he can blow past defenses, he doesn’t do much as an underneath receiver. Additionally, he doesn’t always hold on through contact and doesn’t win with physicality – either he’s open by two steps or essentially unavailable on the play. However, his strengths easily outweigh his weaknesses, but how would he fit on this roster?
To say the Chiefs need another wide receiver would be the understatement of the century. While Rashee Rice has established himself as a fantastic go-to receiver, the rest of the depth chart needs some work. Former first-round pick Xavier Worthy hasn’t done much of anything since entering the league, and former Patriot Tyquan Thornton is nothing more than a depth option. With the rest of the room comprised of unremarkable veterans, the Chiefs must do something to make life easier for Patrick Mahomes in 2026.
Chris Brazzell could be the answer to Kansas City’s prayers. This team hasn’t had a proper deep threat since the Tyreek Hill days, and Brazzell could come in and immediately earn a starting job. Perhaps he’s not the most well-rounded player, but his skills perfectly complement Rice and should help to bring back Kansas City’s stagnant deep passing game.
