Patrick Mahomes was not with the team on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs played their last game of the 2025 season. The two-time NFL MVP remained in Kansas City to continue rehabbing his knee injury as the Chiefs headed to Allegiant Stadium for their season finale.
With their cornerstone quarterback sidelined, Andy Reid and the Chiefs struggled against the Raiders, suffering a deflating 14-12 loss. This marked Kansas City's sixth consecutive defeat to close out the season. The Chiefs finished with a 6-11 record as they miss out on the playoffs for the first time in the Mahomes era.
On Monday, less than 24 hours after the deflating loss to the Raiders, Reid took the podium for the Chiefs' end-of-season press conference. The three-time Super Bowl-winning coach took the opportunity to share an update on Mahomes' recovery following the four-time All-Pro QB's season-ending surgery.
"He's doing great for just being three weeks out," Reid said, via Nate Taylor of ESPN. "He'll go ahead and most likely stay up here [in Kansas City] rehabbing. He has a lot of trust in [Chiefs athletic trainer Julie Frymyer]. He's been in there grinding."
Mahomes underwent surgery on Dec. 15, just one day after her tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee in the Chiefs' 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15. It has been 21 days since Mahomes went under the knife, and it's good to know that he's "doing great" at this point in his rehab.
The Chiefs have yet to provide a firm timetable on Mahomes' return from this major knee injury, but the team has remained optimistic that the six-time Pro Bowler will be ready for the start of the 2026 season. There is still no confirmation that Mahomes will be good to go for Week 1 of the new season, but this latest update is a step in the right direction for him.
Mahomes finished his 2025 campaign with 315-of-502 completed passes (62.7%) for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The 30-year-old also registered 64 carries for 422 yards and five rushing touchdowns in 14 games played.
