Chiefs sign WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to three-year, $30M deal

The Kansas City Chiefs were left with a major void at the wide receiver position when they traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, and they are already attempting to address that need.

Former Green Bay Packers receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling agreed to a three-year, $30 million contract with the Chiefs, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The deal could be worth up to $36 million with incentives.

Valdes-Scantling is a quality deep threat, though he is nowhere near as explosive of a player as Hill. He averaged around 30 catches per year over the past four seasons, but he could have an opportunity to play a bigger role in Kansas City.

It’s interesting that the Packers did not bring Valdes-Scantling back, especially after they traded Davante Adams. Aaron Rodgers is going to have a completely revamped receiver corps next season. Green Bay has almost certainly been consulting him on roster moves, so all the change has been surprising.

Packers players have already been recruiting some big-name receivers to replace Adams. Green Bay will likely address the position in the draft and also add a veteran or two.
