Mitchell (5-10, 200) was selected by the 49ers in the sixth round (No. 194 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Louisiana, where he was a standout back for the Ragin' Cajuns.
In 2023, Mitchell appeared in 11 games (one start), carrying the ball 75 times for 281 yards and two rushing touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference. He also caught six passes for 14 yards. Mitchell often served as a change-of-pace back behind star running back Christian McCaffrey, providing a reliable option in the 49ers' deep backfield.
Mitchell did not play in 2024 after being placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury on August 27, missing the entire season.
His most notable campaign came in 2021 as a rookie, when he made an immediate impact with 963 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Mitchell, 26, has accumulated 1,523 rushing yards on 327 attempts and nine rushing touchdowns in 27 games (12 starts) over three NFL seasons. Additionally, he has registered 28 receptions for 158 yards and one receiving touchdown.
