Chiefs silenced the haters again and somehow they’re louder than ever

Another day, another round of disrespect for the Kansas City Chiefs during the NFL offseason.

Death, taxes, and summertime disparaging of the Chiefs have become the only sure things in life given the tremendous run of sustained success for the franchise. Boasting a legendary head coach in Andy Reid and the game's best quarterback in Patrick Mahomes will keep a team floating at the top for quite some time, and, as it turns out, others have a hard time handling it all.

Every year, some other contender in the AFC is supposed to rise up and make the Super Bowl. Every year, a divisional rival is projected to take hold of the AFC West. Every year, the Chiefs are predicted to take a step backward due to, well, any number of made-up reasons that never seem to actually come true.

The unfounded forecasting continues in full force going into the 2025 season, and the latest round comes via NFL writer Jeffrey Chadiha, who has a few ways to showcase his general lack of faith in Kansas City.

In his latest column with bold predictions for the season ahead, he throws out three curveballs to please Chiefs' haters.

1. The Bills will win the Super Bowl

If the Bills are winning the Super Bowl then that means the Chiefs aren't even playing in it, with both franchises residing in the AFC. Given that the Chiefs have represented the conference in five of the last six Super Bowls, we're pretty sure Mahomes and company will be favored to get there once again.

And let's zero in on something else: if the road runs through Kansas City, no one should believe in Buffalo. Josh Allen and the Bills have had four chances in the last five postseasons to take care of the Chiefs, and Mahomes has ended their season every single time. Excuse us if we're not believers in this one.

2. Joe Burrow will win MVP

Of all of the predictions offered here, this is the most plausible. Burrow has a talented array of weapons, to be sure, and the Bengals have no defense, so offensive shootouts are likely going to be a regular thing in Cincy.

That said, no one should discount the idea of Mahomes claiming his first regular-season MVP since 2022. Xavier Worthy gives the team their first dose of downfield chemistry since Tyreek Hill was traded. Rashee Rice looked ready to ascend to the ranks of the league's best volume targets. Hollywood Brown makes everything better.

That doesn't include Travis Kelce's motivated return, Noah Gray's presence, Jalen Royals' debut, and whatever happens in the backfield. And, of course, if Josh Simmons is the answer at left tackle, that will solve a host of issues.

Basically, Mahomes has more weapons in 2025 than he's had in years, and that could mean some award-chasing by season's end.

3. The Broncos will win the AFC West

This is the silly one—absolutely silly.

Yes, the Denver Broncos are going to be a playoff contender. Yes, their defense looks like one of the league's most complete units. Yes, they should finish in the upper half of the division and provide the Chiefs with tough outs both home and away. Credit where credit is due.

But nine straight years. Nine straight. Let's just let that sink in. It's been almost a full decade since any other team pushed the Chiefs down the divisional ladder. "Uptown Funk" was just coming out the last time the Chiefs were not in first. Avengers: Age of Ultron ruled the box office. David Letterman was saying goodbye.

In other words, it's been quite a while since the Raiders or Chargers or Broncos could claim a division title. And while all things must come to an end, and the way the Chiefs have retooled this offseason, it's hard to imagine any other franchise stopping their divisional dominance in the AFC West.
